WEBINAR THIS THURSDAY: GST on LVT  (TNF2017/035)

In recent time there has been significant media coverage and controversy over the proposed introduction of GST on low value transactions (LVT)

However, as a CBFCA member, you can be assured that we have been involved with this issue for many years through the various inquiries and research before the announcement of the imposition of GST on LVT in the 2015/16 Federal Budget. This close involvement continued with review of the development of the legislation which has recently been the subject of an Inquiry by a Senate Committee Inquiry and which subsequently passed through Parliament. The CBFCA has now turned its attention to submissions to the Productivity Commission review of the “model” by which the GST is imposed and collected as well as consideration on how it will affect the business of members and their clients.

Clearly there is a significant source of material available relating to the proposed legislation and its implementation. Reams of legislation and explanatory memoranda along with guides from Treasury, the ATO, the DIBP and other agencies together with the report being developed by the Productivity Commission as well as commentary from many sources. Much of that may not even affect CBFCA members and their clients but the challenge lies in providing a summary which includes the issues which may have an impact to provide a foundation of knowledge which is enough to allow decisions to be made on future investment in research and advice on the implementation of the legislation. Which is very much the traditional approach of the CBFCA to new regulation and leads to the creation of additional education and training material focussed on the needs of members and clients. A lot of work goes into this approach aimed at delivering appropriate information at the right time.

Taking into account this approach the CBFCA, along with Rigby Cooke Lawyers is ready to deliver a timely, focussed webinar on the “essentials” of the new regime to be delivered in one short, readily-consumed, lunchtime session. It is intended to be complementary to other resource material issued by the CBFCA and government agencies so that members can resume work after the webinar with a better working knowledge of the topic and the tools to monitor the form of implementation on 1 July 2018.

The session will be delivered by Andrew Hudson of RCL who has been working on the topic with the CBFCA together with Sue Danks who will bring her usual concise summary to the position of the LCB in this new regime.
