ACBP Report to Industry on Summit outcomes released today (NNF 2014/112)

As reported to members in NNF 2014/100, the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia (CBFCA) participated in the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBP) Industry Summit on 18 August 2014 as reported at that time. The ACBP would release a final report on the Industry Summit and that is enclosed for the interest of members.

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) CEO, Michael Pezzullo, has today released a report on the outcomes of last month’s inaugural ACBPS Industry Summit.

The ACBPS Industry Summit brought together stakeholders from the travel, trade, freight and logistics sectors and provided an opportunity for the exchange of plans and ideas on improving travel and trade facilitation, and delivering more effective and efficient border management.

During the Summit the Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Scott Morrison, Assistant Minister, Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash, and Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon Josh Frydenberg, met with industry leaders to discuss how the Federal Government can enhance tourism and trade while continuing to protect Australia’s borders.

The report details key emerging themes from the Summit including the Trusted Trader Programme, the future traveller environment, the deregulation agenda, and the creation of the Australian Border Force.

Mr Pezzullo said that enhancing industry engagement is a core element of Australia’s border protection reforms.

“A secure border is a basic requirement for fostering legitimate trade and travel. It is vital that we continue to promote trade compliance and supply chain security as well as looking for innovative solutions to streamline our border processes,” Mr Pezzullo said.

“The Summit is an example of the comprehensive and close working relationship we are building with industry. I look forward to our continued engagement with industry as we move towards our next milestone 1 July 2015.”

“I urge industry to work with us now and into the future so we can find the best solutions for the border.”

The report is available on the ACBPS website, Industry Summit webpage.
