Exports USA – TSA Security (NNF 2017/109)

As members will be aware, there are significant changes to security arrangements in relation to those who export by airfreight to the United States of America (USA) effective 1 July 2017. These new screening requirements are imposed on international air carriers to the USA and are oversighted by the Transport Security Administration (TSA) which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, which has been tasked with implementation of US Government policy. The Australian Government, through the Office of Transport Security (OTS), has been working with international air carriers and with Australian businesses to ensure compliance with TSA requirements in an effort to ensure readiness and reduce red tape while enabling a smooth transition.

The OTS, as part of its awareness campaign with affected parties in Australia, is looking to increase awareness and assist compliance. To that end, the OTS, through relevant industry associations whose members operate in international trade logistics and supply chain management, has requested the distribution of the attached Bulletin.

The information, as set out in the Bulletin, is commended to members for their attention, and more so the attention of their clients who may export to the USA.
