Sydney ports in turmoil

To further our continued campaign in advocating Government and the media with the turmoil that we see at one of our largest ports in Australia (which was almost brought to its knees), a meeting was convened with New South Wales Attorney General Mark Speakman.

During this meeting we discussed;

Shipping lines and the inability to access Port botany, also the skyrocketing costs of freight which has been imposed on our member's clients, the importer, and how this will end up being passed on to the consumer.

  • Empty container parks and the inability to return an empty container as there is no available space left in Sydney to accommodate.
  • Infrastructure/Access Fees which our increasing exponentially over the past two years and there are no signs of this dissipating.
  • The Government must act in mandating that Port Botany and all ports around Australia an essential service and must in the national interest of Australia kept open for business.
  • The advice given on what action IFCBAA had taken in conjunction with the Federal Attorney General, Mr Christian Porter, concerning how industry was responding to the above circumstances during these uncertain times.

I’d like to share with you the letter sent to the Prime Minister’s office in Canberra and his electoral office of Cook.
