DIBP Industry Summit 2016

The following information has been provided by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and is forwarded for your attention.

"This year’s Industry Summit was opened by the Hon. Alex Hawke MP, Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection. It brought together around 300 leaders from key industries, industry bodies and government agencies to discuss how government and industry can partner at the border.

This year’s Summit provided an important platform for us to come together and share our knowledge and experience in the trade, traveller and migration sectors.

We considered ways we could improve trade processes, including modernising Australia’s international trade environment. We discussed compliance frameworks and the need for these to support and balance the continued growth of Australia’s economy and protection of the community. We also explored a long-term vision for the future of visa and business and how we can attract and retain migrants dedicated to Australia’s long term prosperity.

The Department is committed to continuing to work in partnership with industry. It is through the unique partnerships we are building with Australian businesses, and across the breadth of industries they represent, that we forge a strong and safe Australian community and a prosperous, competitive economy.

We would like to thank you for the important contribution you made towards the success of the 2016 Industry Summit. The Department looks forward to your continued involvement and support of future Summits."
