CBFCA member webinar - GST cross-border transactions (TNF 2016/016)

In one of the longest running issues that has troubled our industry sector for a long time, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has finally issued a Fact Sheet that addresses brokers' and forwarders' concerns about GST treatment of shipping company charges. The Government has also introduced a Bill relating to the GST treatment of  cross-border transactions between businesses that will have a major impact on calculation of the value of the taxable imports (VOTI) for GST purposes.

Bob Fraser, former Chairman of the CBFCA, has had carriage of this negotiation with the ATO on behalf of the CBFCA for a number of years and has probably spent more time on this issue than any other person in our industry. Bob has previously delivered a webinar on this during the  2013-2014 CPD year but we thought it appropriate that Bob should provide a follow up on the developments through the ATO and what this means for business in our sector.

Date: Wednesday 20 April 2016

Time: 1300 hours SYD

This webinar will address:

What is the position of shipping companies with GST and local charges
How should local charges now be treated for VOTI and GST purposes
How more changes to the calculation of the VOTI are coming

As always, these CBFCA member webinars provide a terrific opportunity to ask questions of the presenter to gain a full understanding of the processes and the issues. We welcome your attendance and your questions, either in chat or by microphone on the day.

Added bonus - what you wanted to know about WET

We have been asked by a number of members to provide an update on the Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) and so as an added bonus to members, we have invited our Director of Professional Development and Training, Sue Danks, to make a short presentation on this topic at the conclusion of Bob's session.

The WET session will cover:

What is WET?
How it is applied and its exemptions

NOTE: This webinar will provide 3 CPD points in Stream A in total for these two sessions combined

Access to your webinar will be provided through the CBFCA's online College (www.italc.edu.au). Just look for Stream A (2016-2017) in your 'My courses' list to find the Cross-Border GST session.

When prompted to do so just "Enter as a Guest" by typing in your full name. You do not need your username or password for this webinar.
The webinar room will be open up to 30 minutes from the start time of 1300 hours (SYD).
