This new system will replace the Department’s current Import Conditions
Database know as ICON, an existing suite of import conditions and
permit application systems. Whereas ICON provides a database of import
conditions and a simple permit application process, BICON aims to
provide a more sophisticated capability with many additional features
and improvements including:
• improved decision support for customs brokers and importers
• better and more flexible search facility
• on-shore documentation requirements
• an integrated permit application process
• up-front permit fee determination and online payment options
• tracking of permit applications
The CBFCA is represented on the BICON industry working group and has
participated in many national industry workshops and testing during the
development process.
We encourage you to participate in this important business assurance
testing. It is important to note this is a perfect opportunity to
contribute in the development of a sophisticated database of import
conditions and a simple permit application process, which you and your
clients will use in the future.
