"CLARE Murray has started work today (Wednesday June 01) as the new chief executive officer of the Customs Brokers & Forwarders Council of Australia.

She is a former lawyer, having worked as a solicitor in the UK, a solicitor and barrister in New Zealand and a solicitor in Australia.

Prior to joining the CBFCA, Ms Murray was most immediately the CEO of the Queensland Farmers Federation, taking up tenure in May / April 2015.

Prior to that role she was the registrar of the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland, a post she held for seven years, in which she drove registration of professional engineers up from 5,000 to more than 11,000.

Commenting on her new appointment, Ms Murray said that she was attracted by a variety of elements of the job including membership, industry advocacy and the fact that the organization is highly regarded by government and industry.

Stephen Morris, the immediate-past CEO, will continue to be employed with the CBFCA until December 31, 2016. He will work in a transitional capacity with the new CEO as part of a planned succession in relation to the association itself, such as board and administration issues, and then as to advocacy work with regulatory bodies."
