Chain of Responsibility Western Australia

The introduction of ‘Chain of Responsibility’ provisions into road transport law will be a milestone moment for road safety in Western Australia. Following proclamation of supporting regulations, ‘Chain of Responsibility’ legislation will be introduced into WA law on 27 April 2015.

The Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc. (CBFCA) has been advised that the implementation date for the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) legislation in WA has now been set for April 27, 2015.

We, as part of the West Australian Port Operations Task Force (WAPOTF), have been involved for some years now on various sub committees of the WAPOTF to manage the introduction of this legislation and to put together relevant training material and forums to keep you informed.

The link below will take you to the Main Roads web site for CoR on which there is a range of downloads, including the guide prepared by the WAPOTF, to assist with implementation.

The CoR sub committee of the WAPOTF has also developed an “app” for industry to assist with instruction on what to do when faced with possible breaches. This “app” will be released at the upcoming forum on Thursday March 12 to be held at the Royal Fremantle Golf Club from 2.30 thru 5.00. More details on this event will follow in the days ahead.

The implementation of this legislation brings WA into line with other states where CoR has been in operation for some time. We urge members to familiarise themselves with the legislation and ensure that all parties involved in the logistics chain in regards to your container movements are aware of the requirements that will be implemented on 27th April
